Ole Miss Rebels Win Total: o/u 7.5 wins

The Grove and Lane Kiffin are a College Futbol match made in heaven. Ole Miss fans welcomed Kiffin into his first season in Oxford a season ago, and despite a 5-5 record, the Rebels have renewed hope with Kiffin’s electrifying offense.

The Rebels averaged nearly 40 points per game last season and nearly put up 50 in a battle against Nick Saban and Alabama. Ole Miss hasn’t hit this win mark since Hugh Freeze’s team won double-digit games in 2015.

The Schedule:

At Alabama (10/2):

The downside of playing in the SEC West, a yearly matchup with college football’s juggernaut. The 48 points Ole Miss scored against Alabama a season ago tied the record for the most points scored against a Nick Saban-coached Alabama team and marks the second time that Lane Kiffin has come close to knocking off the Tide. Alabama breaks in new starters at the skill positions on offense and replaces offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian with Bill O’Brien.

Liberty (11/6):

The Rebels play a brutal schedule against the SEC West, so why is this game against a team who’s been at the FBS level for three seasons being listed as a key game? Because Liberty coach Hugh Freeze is coming back to Oxford, where he led the Rebels to their most successful seasons in recent history.

Freeze’s tenure was cut short after the NCAA deemed Ole Miss had lost institutional control. On the field, Freeze’s Liberty squad finished 10-1 a season ago, and quarterback Malik Willis is back this year as one of the nation’s top dual-threat signal-callers.

Texas A&M (11/13):

Ole Miss has only topped the Aggies three times in the history of this matchup, two of which were vacated under Hugh Freeze’s watch. Texas A&M is coming off a strong season in 2020 but is replacing four-year starter Kellen Mond at quarterback.

Jimbo Fisher’s team has weapons all around on offense and veteran playmakers on defense, warranting their preseason ranking of 6 nationally. This will give the Rebels a chance to see if they’re ready to break through into the tier of SEC West challengers.

The Team:

Quarterback Matt Corral is back for his second full season as the starter. He’ll have to cut back on turnovers this season after throwing 14 interceptions a year ago, 11 of which came in two losses against Arkansas and LSU.

Jerrion Ealy and Snoop Conner give the Rebels a nice one-two punch in the backfield, having scored a combined 18 touchdowns last season. The defense will have to step it up in 2021 after finishing in the bottom ten nationally in points allowed per game.

The Bet:

Over 7.5 wins.

The schedule lays out so that the Rebels will likely need a win at in-state rival Mississippi State in the final week of the regular season to hit the over. The Thanksgiving matchup has featured everything from tossed playbooks to dog urination imitations in the past few years, and an Egg Bowl featuring Mike Leach and Lane Kiffin is sure to entertain the masses.

Other Bets:

Matt Corral Heisman Trophy Winner:

Quarterbacks under Lane Kiffin have a history of performing at a high level and putting up eye-popping statistics. Corral had a great first season in Kiffin’s offense, and if he can cut down on those turnovers, he has a chance to place his name among the finalists. BetOnline has Corall’s betting line at +1400, while Bovada provides some extra juice at +2200.

Ole Miss SEC West Division Winner:

Bovada has the Rebels betting line at +1600 to win the division. Winning the SEC West would be quite the accomplishment for Ole Miss, who has never played in the SEC Championship game in its 30-year history. The Rebels would need to get past preseason top 20 teams Alabama, Texas A&M, and LSU to make this a reality.
