Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Win Total: o/u 9.5 wins

The most College Football victories in the state of Louisiana over the past two seasons: The Ragin’ Cajuns. LSU put a historic season on the books in 2019 at 15-0, and Louisiana still has the edge on the Tigers with 21 victories over the past two seasons. Head coach Billy Napier bypassed the chance to jump to a bigger job this offseason to return to Lafayette for his fourth season.

The Schedule:

At Texas (9/4): The Ragin’ Cajuns kick off the season in Austin against the Longhorns in new head coach Steve Sarkisian’s debut. Louisiana started off last year with a win over eventual Big 12 runner-up Iowa State, and hopes to play spoiler to another big name school in 2021. The Longhorns open as a 9.5 point favorite per BetOnline, but this is not an opener Texas can afford to take lightly.

Appalachian State (10/12): The Ragin’ Cajuns captured their first victory in this series a season ago, with Appalachian State winning the previous eight matchups. The two teams make up two of the three best odds to be crowned champions in the Sun Belt (Louisiana +110, ASU +400 per Bovada), and could be in line to see each other in the conference championship game for the third time. This game will be a Tuesday night matchup in Lafayette which could create some challenges for the visitors on a short travel week.

At Liberty (11/20): A rare late-season out of conference game on the schedule, Billy Napier’s squad will travel to face a Liberty team that went 11-1 a season ago. Hugh Freeze and the Flames played spoiler to a number of teams in 2020 including the Ragin’ Cajuns fellow Sun Belt member, Coastal Carolina. Quarterback Malik Willis is one of the names to watch at the quarterback position this season and will provide one of the toughest tests for Louisiana’s defense in the regular season.

The Team:

The Ragin’ Cajuns will only be replacing two starters on the entire team entering 2021. A veteran team coming off back-to-back double-digit win seasons seems like a recipe for success this year. Quarterback Levi Lewis is back for a fifth season and has his entire offensive line as well as all of his receiving targets back with him. The defense returns 10 starters as well from a team that only gave up 22 points per game last year.

The Bet:

Over 9.5 wins.

The Ragin’ Cajuns are poised for a big season and have every chance to hit double-digit wins again this year. The games at Texas and Liberty may force Louisiana to play a flawless remainder of the schedule, but the team has a great chance to come out victorious in both of those road tests as well. This team should make its way to the Sun Belt Conference Championship Game, and position themselves well for a chance to play in a New Year’s Six bowl game.

Other Bets:

Louisiana Sun Belt Conference Champions: The Ragin’ Cajuns play in the South division of the conference meaning they won’t compete for a berth in the championship game with top challengers Coastal Carolina (+180 Bovada) and Appalachian State (+400 Bovada). BetUS has Louisiana’s betting odds at Even to win the conference, while Bovada gives them a little juice at +110.

Louisiana Money Line at Texas: The oddsmakers have released odds for Louisiana to win outright in this opener, but it’s one to keep an eye on. The Ragin’ Cajuns had a fairly comfortable win over Iowa State in Ames in week one of 2020, and this Texas team is less formidable than the Cyclones were. Look for the odds on this to open in the +250 to +300 range.
