Buffaloes at Sun Devils Betting Preview

“You play to win the game!”. Herm Edwards will always be famous for this line in his post-game press conference as the New York Jets head coach, but we’re still waiting for a new headline-worthy soundbite from his time at Arizona State. Colorado has knocked off the Sun Devils in three of the last four meetings between the Pac-12 South rivals.

Colorado Buffaloes Team Preview

Colorado started 2020 with a four-game win streak before suffering three score defeats in their final two games of the year, including a bowl loss to Texas. Unfortunately, that momentum carried into 2021 as the Buffs have started the season 1-2. The schedule has been tough with non-conference games against Texas A&M and Minnesota that followed the lone win against Northern Colorado.

The offense has been anemic, to say the least. In the two games against the Aggies and Gophers, Colorado managed to score only a touchdown. The Buffaloes are averaging less than 100 yards passing in each of the first three games and don’t have a receiver with over 50 yards on the year. In total, Colorado ranks dead last in the Pac-12 in scoring offense and total offense by a difference of almost 100 yards per game.

If there’s a bright spot, it’s the defense. The Buffaloes rank near the top of the conference in total defense and are tied with Washington for tops in scoring defense, only allowing 15 points per game.

Arizona State Sun Devils Team Preview

The Sun Devils dropped their matchup on the road against BYU in Week 3, as the Cougars extended their figurative lead on the Pac-12 completing a three-game non-conference sweep of Pac-12 teams to start the season. Arizona State came into the season as one of the favorites to win the Pac-12 South Division, and those prospects remain alive coming into conference play.

Jayden Daniels came into the season with big hopes to possibly finish the season as the Pac-12 player of the year. So far, the start of the season has not yielded the results the team would’ve hoped for. The junior quarterback has combined for only two touchdowns through the air and on the ground while throwing three interceptions and taking five sacks.

Defensively the Sun Devils are among the tops in the conference in all categories. Herm Edwards’ group is top four in rushing defense, passing defense, and scoring defense and ranks number one in the conference in total defense. The team has also turned opposing offenses over six times in the three games.

Betting Odds & Betting Lines

According to BetUS, Arizona State are coming into the match as huge favorites, priced at -600 to win the match, while Colorado are at +450 betting odds to cause an upset. If we take a look at Bovada, they have Colorado priced at +445 and Arizona State at -665.

BetUS and Bovada each have the betting line set at -14, favoring the home Sun Devils.

As for those interested in total betting, the bookmakers are predicting a very low-scoring game in Tempe, with the over/under total points betting line set at just 45 points.

Betting Preview

On the year, Arizona State is 0-3 against the spread and has hit the under in each of their first three games. Colorado is 1-2 against the spread to start the year, with the lone cover coming against Texas A&M when Aggies starting quarterback Haynes King left with a leg injury. The oddsmakers have steadily decreased the total points betting line for each of these teams as each week has gone by.

For this week, the Sun Devils should have all of the advantages at home. Despite the struggles Arizona State has faced offensively this year, they have a proven playmaker at the quarterback position that could go off at any time. Expect both teams to crank up the pressure defensively and for points to come at a premium, especially for Colorado.

Take the Sun Devils to cover and the under.
