Auburn Tigers at Texas A&M Aggies Betting Preview

College football doesn’t have many better atmospheres than Kyle Field on a fall Saturday. That’s where the Auburn Tigers will head this weekend to take on SEC West foe Texas A&M. With Auburn’s win last week over Ole Miss, the Tigers have positioned themselves to have a chance to win the SEC West with wins over Texas A&M and Alabama in the last week of the regular season. The Aggies keep their hopes alive in the division with a win over the Tigers as well, so this game has big implications for both teams.

Auburn Tigers Team Preview

The Tigers picked up a big win last week over the Rebels with a balanced offensive attack. Bo Nix threw for a touchdown pass and ran for two more outdueling Matt Corral, who left the game momentarily with an injury. Tank Bigsby racked up 140 yards rushing on the ground to balance out the attack and ultimately come away victorious.

That’s mostly been the story of the Tigers season on the offensive side of the ball, averaging nearly 200 yards rushing per game and just over 250 yards passing per game. Bo Nix has found his rhythm the past few weeks, solidifying his sport as the Auburn starting quarterback over TJ Finley. Bigsby found his way back to form this week as well after being held under 100 yards in the four games leading up to Ole Miss.

Defensively Auburn has more success stopping the run but ranks in the bottom half of the SEC in defending the pass. Despite the yards given up, the Tigers rank 3rd in the SEC in scoring defense, giving up less than 20 points per game on the season.

Auburn is 5-3 against the spread this season and has won two games outright as underdogs against LSU and Arkansas.

Texas A&M Aggies Team Preview

The Aggies were on the verge of hitting rock bottom on their season before their win against number one ranked Alabama. Back-to-back losses to Arkansas and Mississippi State had the Aggies looking at the basement more than a chance at playing in Atlanta, but the win against the Tide shifted the tide for the season.

The schedule hasn’t offered much chance for the Aggies to prove themselves since the upset, facing off against two struggling teams in South Carolina and Missouri. Zach Calzada had a career performance against Alabama, throwing for 285 yards and three touchdowns while completing 67% of his passes. Since then, the sophomore has come back to his average, completing just around 50% of his attempts with two touchdowns and an interception in each of the last two games.

The running game and the defense have found their groove, however. Isaiah Spiller and Devon Achane are averaging north of 260 yards combined per game on the ground in their last two games and have scored five times. Defensively the Aggies have been stout, holding both teams to 14 points in each game.

The Aggies are 5-3 against the spread on the season and have lost outright twice as the favorite.

Betting Preview

BetOnline and Bovada have the Aggies favored at home by 4.5 points with an over/under total points betting spread slated at 49.

Auburn’s game plan will likely be to force Calzada to beat them and lean on their run defense to slow down Spiller and Achane. If Calzada can channel the magic, he found against Alabama, and Texas A&M should be able to pull this game out at home.

However, it’s more likely that Calzada reverts to his averages, and Auburn’s balanced attack on offense finds some success, and the Tigers pull off the upset. Take the Tigers and the points and look for a low-scoring affair in College Station.
